Since the launch of the AI chatbot ChatGPT in November last year, interest in AI has skyrocketed. According to Google search trends, the global search interest in AI has surpassed keywords such as Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, with China showing the highest search interest in AI.
Google search trend data shows that since 2020, the search interest in Bitcoin has surpassed that of AI at times, and even cryptocurrencies have occasionally surpassed AI. However, this trend has reversed since August 2022. Since the introduction of ChatGPT in November last year, the gap in search interest between AI and Bitcoin/cryptocurrencies has been widening.
According to Google, keywords are given a popularity score from 0 to 100 based on their proportion in the total search volume of all keywords. Currently, the global search interest score for AI is 91, while Bitcoin only has a score of 22.
This result is not surprising, as Bitcoin experienced a bear market in the second half of 2021 and throughout 2022. At the beginning of this year, the price of Bitcoin was only $16,900, but it has since rebounded and has risen by about 150% to nearly $44,000.
Data shows that in the past year, El Salvador, Nigeria, Brazil, the Netherlands, and Switzerland had the highest search interest in Bitcoin, with scores of 100, 82, 47, 46, and 43, respectively. As for Taiwan, the search interest score for Bitcoin is only 2.
In addition, in the past year, China, Vietnam, Romania, the Philippines, and Myanmar had the highest search interest in AI, with scores of 100, 99, 68, 67, and 64, respectively. In Taiwan, the search interest score for AI is 32.
Previously, CoinGecko released an analysis report in July this year, stating that AI has become the most searched job. From 2020 to 2022, the search volume for “AI jobs” and “cryptocurrency jobs” was relatively close, with AI mostly having the advantage. However, after Bitcoin reached a record high of $69,000 in November 2021, searches for cryptocurrency surpassed AI.
With the widespread application of Web3 and cryptocurrency technology and increased interest from people, cryptocurrency jobs attracted a large number of job seekers in 2022. However, since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, searches for “AI jobs” have started to soar.
According to CoinGecko’s research, the search volume for “AI jobs” in 2023 reached its peak, almost five times higher than the peak for “cryptocurrency jobs,” and it still remains four times higher at the time of the report. Singapore ranks among the top in search interest for both “AI jobs” and “cryptocurrency jobs” among all countries.
