AI chatbot ChatGPT has become popular worldwide this year. As the end of the year approaches, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, announced the plans for OpenAI next year on the 24th. This includes the intention to launch GPT-5. However, he stated that Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is still not expected to be introduced next year.
During the Christmas holiday, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, asked netizens on the 24th to suggest new features or improvements for OpenAI next year. He received a huge response from netizens. Subsequently, he further announced the most requested features, including:
1. AGI – Please be patient.
2. GPT-5
3. Better performance in voice mode
4. Higher rate limits
5. More powerful GPT performance
6. Enhanced reasoning abilities
7. Control over awakening/behavior levels
8. Video capabilities
9. Personalized settings
10. Improved browsing experience
11. Login using OpenAI accounts
12. Open-source availability
AGI refers to AI that possesses human-level intelligence or surpasses human intelligence, capable of performing exceptionally well in various domains and tasks. However, it is still in the early stages of research. Sam Altman expressed that although many people hope AGI will be achieved by 2024, they will likely be disappointed as OpenAI cannot accomplish this goal by then.
Earlier this month, Sam Altman stated that he believes AGI will be the most powerful technology ever invented by humans. Additionally, according to foreign media reports in early December, OpenAI postponed the launch of the highly anticipated customized GPT Store to early 2024.
Will GPT-5 be released next year?
Previously, there were rumors that GPT-4.5 would be unveiled by the end of December. Recently, a Reddit forum post on the OpenAI section revealed that GPT-4.5 seems to have quietly gone online, claiming to be “OpenAI’s most advanced model” with enhanced multimodal capabilities, optimizing the processing of language, audio, visual, 3D, and video data.
However, OpenAI researcher Will DePue responded to the rumors about GPT-4.5 on Twitter, debunking the speculation. When asked on the X platform whether GPT-4.5 leaks were true or false, Sam Altman informally denied it by saying “nah,” sparking endless speculations.
Last month, Sam Altman revealed that the development of the next-generation model, GPT-5, is underway. However, he did not commit to a release date, only mentioning that this new model will require more data for training, including publicly available data from the internet and proprietary data provided by companies.
