AI chatbot ChatGPT has been popular worldwide this year. As the year comes to an end, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, announced OpenAI’s plans for next year on the 24th. This includes the intention to launch GPT-5. However, he stated that Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) will still not be available next year.
During the Christmas holiday, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, asked the internet users on the 24th for suggestions on what new features or fixes they would like to see from OpenAI next year. He received a great response from the internet users. Subsequently, he further announced some of the most requested features, including:
– Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), please be patient.
– GPT-5
– Better performance in voice mode
– Higher rate limits
– More powerful GPT performance
– Improved reasoning ability
– Control over awakening level/behavior level
– Video functionality
– Personalized settings
– Better browsing experience
– Login with OpenAI account
– Open-source
AGI refers to AI that possesses intelligence equal to or surpassing human intelligence and can perform exceptionally well in various fields and tasks. However, it is still in the early research stage. Sam Altman stated that while many people hope to achieve AGI by 2024, they will likely be disappointed as OpenAI cannot achieve this goal by that year.
Earlier this month, Sam Altman expressed his belief that AGI will be the most powerful technology ever invented by humans. Additionally, according to foreign media reports in early December, the highly anticipated custom GPT store by the community has been postponed by OpenAI until early 2024.
Will GPT-5 be available next year? Previously, there were rumors that GPT-4.5 would be unveiled by the end of December. Recently, a Reddit user leaked that GPT-4.5 seems to have quietly gone online, claiming to be “OpenAI’s most advanced model” with enhanced multimodal capabilities, optimizing the processing of language, audio, visual, 3D, and video data.
However, OpenAI researcher Will DePue debunked the rumors about GPT-4.5 and Sam Altman unofficially denied the leak on the X platform when asked if GPT-4.5 had leaked, responding with “nah,” leading to endless speculation.
Sam Altman previously revealed last month that they are developing the next-generation model, GPT-5, but he did not commit to a release date. He only mentioned that this new model will require more data for training, which will come from publicly available data on the internet and proprietary data provided by companies.
