Developers Go Crazy and Release “Bee Movie” Script on Ethereum Mainnet
Introduction to “Bee Movie”
Significant Decrease in L2 Gas Fees
After the upgrade of Ethereum Dencun, the significant decrease in transaction fees has provided developers with entertainment opportunities, one of which is uploading the complete script of “Bee Movie” to the Ethereum mainnet.
During the early stages of the Dencun upgrade, Dan Cline, a developer at Paradigm, released the script of this movie on Ethereum with a cost of approximately $14. Although he stated that he was not the first person to release a Blob transaction, he excitedly shared that he was the first person to publish the script of “Bee Movie” on the Ethereum mainnet.
About an hour later, as transaction fees further decreased, Mason Hall, a developer at a16z, stated that he also released the script on the mainnet with a cost of only $5.
This act of copying and pasting the script of “Bee Movie” originated from a meme on Tumblr and quickly spread on social media platforms such as Reddit, YouTube, and Facebook. Previously, during the popularity of Ordinals in Bitcoin, developers also released the script of this movie on the Bitcoin blockchain.
“Bee Movie” is an American animated comedy film released in 2007 with a duration of 92 minutes. It was produced by DreamWorks Animation and directed by Simon J. Smith and Steve Hickner. It features voice acting by Jerry Seinfeld, Renée Zellweger, Matthew Broderick, and other celebrities. The movie tells the story of a young bee named Barry B. Benson who is dissatisfied with the job assigned to him by the bee society and decides to leave the hive to find a new purpose in life.
During his adventure, Barry discovers that humans have been consuming honey produced by bees without providing proper compensation or respect. He decides to sue humans, which leads to a court battle between humans and bees. Through this adventure, Barry not only learns the importance of his own community but also discovers the significance of friendship and mutual understanding across species.
“Bee Movie” has won the hearts of audiences with its unique humor and satire on contemporary social issues. It has also sparked discussions on environmental protection and animal rights.
The Dencun upgrade introduces a new transaction type called “Blobs,” which is primarily used to reduce the cost of data storage on Ethereum L2, rather than directly reducing gas fees on the Ethereum mainnet.
So far, OP chains (including OP Mainnet, Base, and Zora), Starknet, and zkSync have completed the updates, while Arbitrum One will be completed later today. The projects that have completed the upgrade indeed witnessed a significant decrease in gas fees.
Based on L2 Fees website, the following comparisons were made between the evening of the 13th (before the Dencun upgrade) and the morning of the 14th for the gas fees of sending ETH, showing a significant decrease:
zkSync Era:
From $0.15 to $0.04
StarkNet:
From $0.71 to $0.07
OP Mainnet:
From $0.36 to less than $0.01
Additionally, according to the Dune data panel by Marcov, the average transaction fees for major L2s this morning are as follows:
Zora: $0.0034
OP Mainnet: $0.035
zkSync: $0.159
Base: $0.035
Compared to the average transaction fees of $0.487 for Arbtrum, which has not yet completed the upgrade, the Dencun upgrade has truly brought significant changes.
