Since 2021, El Salvador has officially adopted Bitcoin as legal tender, setting a global precedent. President Bukele (Nayib Bukele) has also actively promoted various Bitcoin policies, including the development of wallets, a $1 billion Bitcoin bond, an investment citizenship program, and more.
Bukele: Transfer of 5,689 Bitcoins to Cold Wallet and Publicly Reveal Address
Today, Bukele announced a major move on X:
Bukele also publicly revealed the address of the cold wallet, further solidifying the country’s commitment to Bitcoin and transparency. According to Bitcoin browser Mempool data, the wallet currently holds 5,689 Bitcoins, worth approximately $381 million.
In addition, NayibTracker data shows that the Salvadoran government treasury holds an additional 2,864 Bitcoins, worth approximately $191 million. Previously, Bukele made it clear that these 2,864 Bitcoins were not included in the government’s earnings from services such as the passport program, mining, and assisting local businesses in converting Bitcoin to USD.
Community Applauds, Salvadoran Cold Wallet Receives Airdrops
This move has received much praise, with HODL15Capital responding, “Truly appreciate this transparency! This demonstrates the spirit of Bitcoin!”
Furthermore, according to Ordinals browser data, the wallet has received many airdrops from the community, including approximately $700 worth of satoshis (also known as sats, or “聰” in Chinese, which is one hundred millionth of a BTC). Some of these satoshis are marked as “Pizza” and “Retro.” The Pizza satoshis refer to the famous event where early Bitcoin contributor Laszlo Hanyecz purchased two Papa John’s pizzas with 10,000 BTC on May 22, 2010, and Retro satoshis are those mined within the first 1,000 Bitcoin blocks.
There are also over 67 donations from Ordinals, including BRC-20 tokens, texts, images, 3D talismans, and even a copy of the “Cypherpunk Manifesto” written by Eric Hughes in 1993.

Moreover, over 56 transactions have been sent to the cold wallet address, with the majority being small transfers. These donations demonstrate the support and enthusiasm of the crypto community.
