Current US President Biden’s “disconnected and incoherent” performance at a debate has drawn widespread criticism, sparking concerns even within the Democratic Party. Despite assurances from the White House that Biden will not withdraw from the 2024 presidential election, sources reveal Vice President Harris’s team is considering the possibility.
Following the first televised debate on June 28, 2024, Biden’s performance has led to internal Democratic panic. Senior officials from Biden’s campaign, the White House, and the Democratic National Committee suggest that if Biden decides not to run in 2024, Vice President Harris, given her high visibility and favorable poll numbers within the party, would likely be the primary alternative candidate.
Other influential figures within the Democratic Party being considered include popular cabinet members and governors such as California’s Newsom, Michigan’s Whitmer, and Pennsylvania’s Shapiro. However, Harris remains the frontrunner. The cryptocurrency market swiftly reacted to these developments, with Harris-themed tokens seeing a significant surge before a slight decline.
In response, Trump’s team and some Republican allies have preemptively launched social media posts and statements criticizing Harris, with spokesperson Witt asserting, “Harris has proven herself historically weak and disastrous, fully backing Biden’s catastrophic policies over the past four years.” Republicans appear concerned that Harris’s rise could threaten Trump’s electoral prospects, prompting an early offensive.
Meanwhile, Biden, after ending his late-night schedules to prioritize more sleep since the end of June’s debate, underwent a “doctor’s check-up” following the televised debate. While aides emphasize this was a brief check and not a comprehensive health examination, Biden emphasized the importance of this adjustment for maintaining health and efficiency.
Adjustments to Biden’s schedule have sparked dissatisfaction among some governors, with one campaign assistant explaining Biden’s need to spend several hours daily on presidential duties in addition to campaigning. The assistant noted Biden’s upcoming week-long trip to Europe to prepare for debates adds to his workload.
