On April 3, 2024, at 8:00 am Taiwan time, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake occurred. Bitget, a globally renowned cryptocurrency trading platform, announced at the first time that it would provide assistance to its users in Taiwan who were affected by the earthquake.
Walden Zhang, the Regional Director of Bitget Taiwan, stated, “The platform has already issued the first payment for the disaster relief plan. Users who have applied can confirm the amount in their Bitget accounts. In addition to the user assistance program, Bitget also made a Taiwanese dollar donation to the disaster relief fund immediately when the earthquake occurred. We hope to contribute our efforts to all those who have been affected by this earthquake.”
Bitget recently announced that it has allocated a budget of $500,000 as an emergency fund for the user assistance program for those affected by the earthquake. All Bitget users in Taiwan who have suffered financial losses or personal injuries during the earthquake can apply for relief funds, with a maximum amount of $100 equivalent.
After a natural disaster, when people need additional funds to help meet medical supplies, food, and other basic needs, they often cannot use traditional banking services. Cryptocurrency transfers are now increasingly used to provide economic assistance to disaster victims because they offer fast, low-cost, borderless, and transparent transactions.
