Taiwan experienced a magnitude 7.2 earthquake on the morning of April 3, 2024. Bitget, a leading global cryptocurrency exchange and Web3 company, announced in the first instance an assistance program for its Taiwanese users affected by the disaster.
Walden Zhang, Bitget’s Regional Director for Taiwan, issued a statement on behalf of the operating team stating that they have allocated an emergency budget of $500,000 for the assistance program for users affected by the earthquake. Walden stated, “If the disaster continues to escalate, Bitget will make additional donations to the earthquake disaster relief fund as soon as it is established. If users in the affected areas have any material needs, Bitget will also provide immediate assistance, doing its utmost to support all affected users.”
Bitget also officially announced that all Taiwanese users can apply for disaster relief funds, up to a maximum of $100 equivalent, if they have suffered financial losses or personal injuries during the earthquake, by filling out a form on the Bitget official website.
After a natural disaster occurs, traditional banking services are often not accessible when people need additional funds to help meet medical supplies, food, and other basic needs. Cryptocurrency transfers are increasingly being used to provide economic assistance to disaster victims because they offer fast, low-cost, borderless, and transparent transactions.
The Bitget team expressed their hope that the impact of this earthquake can be minimized and that all Taiwanese people can safely overcome this difficulty.
