Despite awaiting his sentencing hearing on April 30th, Binance founder Zhao Changpeng has not been idle. He has been updating the community on the progress of the “Giggle Academy” and expanding the team.
As a brief recap, Binance reached a historic settlement agreement with the US Department of Justice and other institutions in November of last year. Zhao Changpeng admitted to violating the US anti-money laundering laws and stepped down as CEO. He paid $175 million in bail and is currently awaiting his sentencing hearing on April 30th.
It is worth noting that on March 19th, Zhao Changpeng announced the launch of the education project “Giggle Academy.” This project aims to provide free basic education, with a focus on gamified learning experiences and adaptive educational mechanisms, for students from grade 1 to grade 12. It is not for profit.

Recruiting a Team of 15
Today (March 31st), CZ provided an update on the progress of “Giggle Academy” on X platform. He stated that they have already established a team of 10 members, including both part-time and full-time employees. All members are working remotely, and the team has three conference calls per week, as well as occasional informal meetings.
Furthermore, CZ is actively recruiting new members, with approximately 12 interview arrangements already made. The goal is to expand the team to 15 members. In terms of instructional content, they have completed the development of the first English pronunciation course and are currently working on production.
It is worth noting that Giggle Academy has chosen to prioritize the development of an application for the Android system instead of a web version. This decision is based on the consideration that Android devices are often the preferred choice for families before acquiring laptops in the target market. The touchscreen functionality and push notifications of Android phones are more user-friendly for children.
Additionally, the project team is in the process of redesigning its characters, as the original design was too similar to the famous animated characters Tom and Jerry. CZ is also actively engaging with experts in the field of education, continuously exploring and learning more about educational applications and techniques. Finally, he jokingly asked if they should hire a meme expert.
The interaction between CZ and the community in the comments section is peaceful, as if CZ has eased the burden and now has a relaxed pace. The community informs CZ that the younger generation now relies on memes for learning.
