SBF is currently being held in a prison in Brooklyn, where he faces “cruel and inhumane” conditions, as well as frequent extortion and harassment from fellow inmates.
Last year, SBF, the founder of a cryptocurrency exchange who was convicted of a crime, is currently being detained in a prison in Brooklyn, awaiting the outcome of a trial that could potentially result in a sentence of up to 110 years. According to the New York Post, SBF’s life in prison is actually quite miserable, as he is currently being secretly extorted and harassed by other inmates.
SBF becomes a target of bullying in prison. The specific details of his prison life were exposed by Carmine Simpson, a 29-year-old former police officer who was arrested in 2021 for allegedly soliciting child pornography. He publicly appealed to Judge Lewis A. Kaplan of the United States District Court, requesting leniency for SBF, as he described the prison conditions that SBF is facing as “cruel and inhumane.” SBF is forced to consume “uncooked rice, a spoonful of disgusting-looking beans, and a week-old brown lettuce” every day.
Furthermore, Carmine Simpson wrote in the letter that SBF is frequently targeted for bullying, harassment, and attacks. Compared to the average inmates, he is subjected to a much higher frequency of mistreatment, and his imprisonment experience is actually very difficult.
Still boasting about “effective altruism” in prison. In his plea for leniency to Judge Kaplan, Simpson cited SBF’s self-proclaimed “effective altruism.” In the letter submitted to the Manhattan Federal Court on Tuesday, Simpson wrote:
To his surprise, Simpson stated that as he got to know SBF better, he believed that this person who is charged with multiple counts of fraud and money laundering and who misused billions of dollars of client funds, is “the most selfless person” he has ever met. He said that even in prison, SBF can still see the best in everyone. The former police officer appealed to the court to release SBF so that he can work and improve the world.
