AI scams are rampant, and recently, the cryptocurrency exchange OKX suffered from hackers using AI to forge fake documents and generate fake avatar videos. They successfully stole a user’s account and ultimately took away $2 million in assets. OKX responded that the case is currently in the judicial process and the progress of the incident cannot be disclosed at the moment.

Demand for OKX to Compensate for Full Loss

OKX Official Response

AI Cracking KYC is Endless

A Chinese user of OKX recently revealed in a lengthy post that he was hacked. The hacker purchased his leaked personal information, logged into his email, reset the password, and bypassed OKX’s review using fake ID cards and fake avatar videos created by AI. They successfully applied to change his phone number, email, and Google Authenticator, resulting in the loss of over $2 million in assets in his OKX account.

The user, known as “Lairifangchang,” pointed out that he was stolen from on May 3. After reporting the incident to the police, he saw someone who looked very similar to him in the police’s phone. That person was holding a fake ID card and reading into the camera, saying, “I am Wu Suohan, ID number 4222…” He questioned how this could bypass OKX’s risk control system.

Lairifangchang stated that the public security department is currently investigating and has obtained some clues. Through the comparison of big data in the public security system, they have preliminarily identified the real information of two counterfeiters and are preparing for arrest. However, it is highly likely that these two are just pawns, and there are surely other hidden thieves behind them.

In the end, Lairifangchang affirmed that OKX has already set up a special project team internally. He urged them to conduct internal investigations to ensure that there are no issues with the platform’s employees. Additionally, he emphasized the need to quickly fix the loopholes to ensure the safety of other users’ assets. Lastly, he called for active communication with the public security department to establish a working group to track down the culprits.

The user also appealed for OKX to have the courage to take responsibility and compensate him for his full loss.

Regarding this incident, OKX’s official Twitter account stated last night that they have noticed the information circulating online about “OKX platform user accounts being hacked.” In fact, when the incident occurred, the platform has been following up and assisting the relevant parties in handling the situation. Currently, it is in the judicial process, and according to the request, the progress of the incident cannot be disclosed.

In fact, according to a previous report by Dong Qu, using AI to forge documents and crack KYC has long been an urgent issue to be addressed. A website called OnlyFake allows users to quickly generate realistic fake driver’s licenses or passports using AI technology, successfully bypassing KYC of multiple mainstream cryptocurrency exchanges, and the price is only $15. Users are reminded to be cautious of this new type of hacking method.
